What is a Thriller?

There are four main subgenres of thrillers. These are:
  • Crime Thrillers
  • Psychological thrillers
  • Erotic thrillers
  • Mystery thrillers
A thriller can be a peice of literature, a film or a TV show. Thrillers main elements are building suspense, excitement and uncertainty in the plot. A genuine thriller is a film that rentlessly pursues a single-minded goal  to provide thrills and keep the audience at the 'edge of their seats'. The tension usually arises when the main character is placed in a menacing situation, for example when they have to escape from somewhere or be on a dangerous mission from which success and safety seems impossible.

Some of the all time greatest Thrillers are as follows
  • Silence of the Lambs
  • Psycho
  • The Shining
