Psychological thrillers

Psychological thrillers are arguably the most popular type of thrillers. In these films the conflict between the main character and others in mainly mental and emotional then physical, however violence usually does come into the equation when a psychotic male/female release their anger. An example of this is in the film De Palma american Supernatural film Carrie (1976), in which she lets all her anger out, killing everyone in the room she was angry in.

Characters in these films tend to get dragged into conflict regardless of them wanting to or nor. We can again refer back to Carrie as she is almost forced to go to the prom , only for her to get embarrassed by the "cool, popular kids" by pouring pigs blood on her head, which subsequently leads to her reign of terror and hatred.

Examples of some of the best Psychological thrillers of all time include:
  • Psycho (1960)
  • Suspicion (1941)
  • Phone Booth (2003)
  • Misery (1990)
