Orphan (2009)
Orphan (2009) is an American psychological/Horror thriller directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. It stars Vera Farmiga, Peter Sarsgaard and Isabella Fuhrman. the filom cnetre on a couple who, after the death of their unborn child, adopts a mysterious nine year old girl named Esther.
Esther is not a normal 9 year old girl, this is suggested in the film by her behaviour patterns, we start to notice there is something speciously wrong when she kills her ex carer from her orphanage who comes to visit her in cold blood with a hammer. She then hides her body.
As the film goes on we learn that Esther is actually a 33 year old women pretending to be a child in order to prevent herself from going to prison for her early life prostitution. She escaped from an Estonion mental institute called The Saarne Institute. We are told that she suffers from Hypopituitarism, a disease that stunts growth permanently, subsequently making Esther feel like a women trapped inside a 9 year old girls body.
Esther had previously killed 7 people and is planning on seducing the dad of her foster family. If this was to fail, which it did, she would go on a rampage and attempt to kill the whole foster family. this is fortunately prevented by the mother, Kate, the father is stabbed to death by Esther after she rejected him.
