Sub-genres in Thrillers. Spy thrillers.

Spy Thrillers

In spy thrillers, the usual plot would be for a government agency/agent to take violent action against agents of a rival government or in some more recent films, terrorism. The sub-genre usually deals with the subject of a fictional espionage in a realistic way.

There are many leading directors such as Alfred Hitchcock and Carol Reed making many spy thrillers set within the British secret service. Some, if not most spy thrillers, also fall into the genre of action, for example the James Bond movies.

Examples of good Spy thrillers in the last century include:

  • Spy Game (2001)
  • Hanna (2011)
  • Thinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)
  • Taken (2008)
